Model United Nations

Academic Year 2018-19 saw the launch of Al Faris Model UnitedNations (MUN) for students in Grades 9-12.  MUN is a globally recognizedextracurricular activity in many schools and universities where students assumethe roles of countries and organizations represented in the United Nations inspecific committees and debate about global issues. Our students have takenpart in local debates, traveled to regional and international MUN conferencesand hosted three successful conferences.  The aims of an MUN conferenceare to encourage debate and sharing of views among students from differentschools and of different ethnicities. Through the MUN, our students gain anin-depth knowledge of global issues and practice their critical thinking andcommunication skills as well as develop an open-minded attitude.

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) at Al Faris International School

At Al Faris International School, CAS is an integral part of the IB Diploma Programme,fostering students’ personal and interpersonal development through experiential learning. Ourstudents actively engage in various initiatives that promote creativity, physical activity, andmeaningful service to the community.

Local and International Community Engagement

• Azraq Refugee Assistance (2016-2019): A sustained, award-winning project where students traveled to Azraq, Jordan, providing school supplies, volunteering at local schools, and improving community facilities.
• Annual Volunteering Projects: Our students collaborate with local NGOs, hospitals, and community centers to support underprivileged communities, including initiatives for children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities.
• Ramadan Donation Drives: Each year, students organize food and essentials distribution campaigns to support families in need during the holy month.

Academic and Leadership Initiatives

• HarvardxAlFaris MUN 2025 & International MUN Conferences: Al Faris students actively engage in international Model United Nations (MUN) conferences, including the prestigious Harvard Model Congress Middle East (HMCM x AlFaris MUN 2025) hosted at our campus and Yale MUN in Belgium. These conferences provide students with opportunities to develop diplomatic, negotiation, and public speaking skills while addressing real-world global issues. Through rigorous debates and policy discussions, students gain a deeper understanding of international relatio leadership, and problem-solving.
• TEDx Youth Event at Al Faris: Al Faris hosts TEDx Youth, an event where students present innovative ideas and inspiring stories to a wider audience. This platform nurtures confidence, critical thinking, and public speaking skills, empowering students to voice their perspectives on topics that matter.

Health and Well-Being Initiatives

• Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Every October, FIS students organize fundraising events and awareness campaigns, selling customized merchandise and sharing educational resources.
• Alzheimer’s Awareness Campaign: Students engage in initiatives to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease, including educational sessions, visits to elderly care centers, and fundraising efforts for research and support programs.
• Healthy Lifestyle Campaigns: Activities include food label education, healthy meal planning, weight management awareness, and participation in sports events such as the Riyadh Half Marathon and outdoor hiking adventures.
Environmental and Sustainable Development Projects
• NEOM Game Development Challenge 2024: FIS was among the top 10 schools in this national competition. Our students designed Fox Enviro Dash, a mobile game that educates players on environmental conservation through interactive gameplay.
• Eco-Friendly Initiatives: Students actively work on sustainability projects such as recycling drives, tree-planting campaigns, and beach cleanups, reinforcing our commitment to environmental responsibility.
Cultural and Global Awareness Programs
• Human Rights and Global Awareness Campaigns: Students participate in initiatives highlighting important global issues such as human rights, climate change, and poverty alleviation.
• Educational and Cultural Engagements: Activities include enhancing the school library, visiting art galleries, tutoring younger students, and celebrating international days such as UN Day and International Education Day.

Athletics

The aim of the Al Faris curriculum is to develop the entire individual academically, emotionally, socially and physically.  To this end, we strive to give our students opportunities to develop their skills in several sports activities which promote not only physical well-being but also teamwork, friendship and healthy competition. Soccer, volleyball, basketball, swimming, karate, handball, and table tennis, gymnastics and dance are a part of our athletics program.

A gymnasium, an outdoor soccer field, an inner sports courtyard, two indoor swimming pools and gymnastics/ballet rooms provide students with a comfortable facilities for physical education classes, school sports competitions and after school activities.

Students regularly participate in both school and inter-school sports tournaments.  Al Faris International is a member of the International Schools Sports League in Riyadh (ISSL-R). Our students compete in middle school, junior varsity and varsity categories in volleyball, soccer, table tennis, basketball, swimming, track and field and badminton.  Each competition ends with a medal ceremony for 3rd, 2nd and 1st place teams / schools.

After School Program

Our after school program offers students opportunity to participate in a variety of activities including swimming, karate, soccer, gymnastics, ballet, drawing/arts and crafts, and Holy Qur’an.Students will be given information and sign-up sheets at the beginning of term.

Al Faris Academy
