Academic Year 2018-19 saw the launch of Al Faris Model United Nations (MUN) for students in Grades 9-12. MUN is a globally recognized extracurricular activity in many schools and universities where students assume the roles of countries and organizations represented in the United Nations in specific committees and debate about global issues. Our students have taken part in local debates, traveled to regional and international MUN conferences and hosted three successful conferences. The aims of an MUN conference are to encourage debate and sharing of views among students from different schools and of different ethnicities. Through the MUN, our students gain an in-depth knowledge of global issues and practice their critical thinking and communication skills as well as develop an open-minded attitude.
Azraq Refugee Assistance
Our sustained, award-winning project to assist refugees situated in Azraq, Jordan was a cornerstone of the FIS CAS program from 2016-2019. Students visited Azraq bringing supplies and ready to help. Initiatives included improvements to school facilities, volunteering at the school and coordinating activities for the children, providing healthy meals for the kids, providing needy children with eye glasses, constructing a new toilet facility and renovating a bakery for the community.
Healthy Lifestyle Initiatives
Students have organized activities to promote healthy lifestyle choices. These have included oral presentations, stations and games to educate about food labels, healthy snack choices and food portions, effective weight management and fad dieting. Students have also participated in sports events such as the Riyadh Half Marathon and hiking.
Awareness and More
During the month of October, FIS students are active participants in the global Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. Fundraisers for local centers have demonstrated student creativity with stations of products (T-shirts, mugs, pens, calendars, pink ribbons, etc.) and literature promoting breast cancer issues. In 2016, Al Faris International joined hands with 10KSA to promote awareness, and volunteers took part in the world’s largest humanitarian ribbon formed at Princess Noura University
Other activities include a used book sale project to promote reading and add to the school library; visits to hospitals and community centers for children and the elderly, Human Rights Awareness, creation of an art gallery, and tutoring younger students.
The Al Faris curriculum aims to develop the entire individual academically, emotionally, socially, and physically. To this end, we strive to give our students opportunities to develop their skills in several sports activities that promote not only physical well-being but also teamwork, friendship, and healthy competition. Soccer, volleyball, basketball, swimming, karate, handball, and table tennis, gymnastics and dance are a part of our athletics program.
After School Program
Our after school program offers students opportunity to participate in a variety of activities including swimming, karate, soccer, gymnastics, ballet, drawing/arts and crafts, and Holy Qur’an. Students will be given information and sign-up sheets at the beginning of term.
Al Faris curriculum focuses on academic, emotional, social, and physical growth.
