American Diploma
(Grades 11-12)
Students entering Grades 11-12 at FIS have the option to choose the IB Diploma course or the American Diploma course. The American Diploma is a rigorous high school curriculum designed to prepare students for the SAT Reasoning Test administered by the College Board and used as a standard of university admission worldwide, especially for those seeking higher education in the United States. At the end of the course, students are granted the equivalency of an American high school diploma. Our American Diploma course is currently certified by AdvancEd.
American Diploma Curriculum:
Our curriculum is based on the US Common Core and includes the following mandatory subjects:
- English Language and Literature
- Mathematics (trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus)
- Sciences (physics, chemistry, and biology taught as separate courses)
- Individuals and Societies
- Arabic Language
French Language
- Arts (creative visual arts)
- Design (computer technology)
- Physical and Health Education
In addition, our curriculum also includes Islamic Studies as prescribed by the Saudi Ministry of Education.
When Should I take the SAT?
Most students take the SAT during the spring of their junior year of high school (Grade 11). Many students choose to take the SAT a second time in the fall of their senior year after becoming familiar with the test day experience.
Al Faris International School is an official SAT Testing Center, however, individual students are responsible to register for the SAT exam at www.collegeboard.org
